Lifetime Achievement Award for Peter Rodd, Boys & Maughan Senior Partner from 2012-2017
Peter Rodd, Senior Partner at Boys & Maughan from 2012-2017, has been presented with a Modern Law Conveyancing Awards Lifetime Achievement Award.
Peter has been involved in the legal aspects of residential property for 43 years.
He quickly showed his promise as a property lawyer when he joined Boys & Maughan Solicitors in Margate as an articled clerk in 1976. Peter was admitted as a solicitor in 1978 and became a partner in 1981. Peter was also a Public Notary between 1989 and 2017.
Presenting the award at the awards event at the Rum Warehouse in Liverpool on 18 July 2019, the judges said:
“Peter Rodd has chaired many property committees and organisations over a number of years. He is the Law Society Council member for the Residential Property Seat and a member of the Conveyancing and Land Law and Property Section Committees and the Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) Senior Assessor.
“Peter is Past President and Secretary of the Isle of Thanet Law Society. He also sat on the Law Society Money Laundering Task Force, and is a past member of the Society's Home Information Pack and e-Conveyancing Task Forces.
“Peter has written numerous articles for various legal publications relating to property matters, mortgage fraud, money laundering and regulation and is a regular lecturer on these subjects. For example, Peter is booked to lead a session at the Law Society’s transparency, regulation and change national law conference in October 2019.
“Peter has been involved with the Law Society for over 20 years. He has consistently argued that the profession needs clarity and pointed to the need for lawyers and law firms to understand the ways in which the legal market has shifted and to adjust their strategies, expectations and ways of working to conform to new market realities.
“In his role as a member of the Conveyancing Association Policy Strategy Board, Peter has emphasised the need to provide specialist advice to large and small firms alike and working with the regulators to clarify areas of uncertainty.”
Peter continues to regularly visit Boys & Maughan and keeps colleagues on their toes with news of legal and industry developments. In so doing Peter always demonstrates a light touch and sense of humour, continuing the culture he established at our firm.
Many of the roles Peter has voluntarily undertaken are time consuming and many faceted and he has consistently shown the time, enthusiasm and ability to fill them.
