Damages for Holidaymaker Who Slipped on Wet Floor
A woman who was injured when she slipped on a wet floor in a hotel room has secured compensation from the travel operator that provided her holiday.
The accident happened on the day she was due to fly home after a package holiday in Morocco. She and her husband had already checked out but the hotel let them use another room to get changed. The floor of the room was wet and she slipped, hitting her head and dislocating her elbow.
She went with her husband to a local hospital and her arm was put in a brace. They then headed to the airport but were told it was too late to check in for their flight. After the travel operator told them they would have to wait until the following week for another flight, her husband booked them a flight home the next morning with another airline.
She was off work for 11 weeks. Formerly a cook, she has had to find a new job as she can no longer lift heavy objects.
She sought legal advice and a claim was brought against the travel operator on the basis that, by not cleaning or checking the room, the hotel had breached the duty of care it owed her.
Her claim was settled for £6,750. The compensation covers the medical bills she incurred and the rearranged flight home, as well as her loss of earnings.
